What is Pico Toning?

Pigment, shattered. Skin, untouched.

Pico toning uses picosecond-pulse laser energy delivered in trillionths of a second to fracture melanin pigment into microscopic particles your body naturally clears. Unlike older Q-switched lasers (nanosecond pulse), pico technology generates almost no heat, meaning healthy skin around the pigment is preserved — and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), the main risk for Asian skin, is dramatically reduced. At JRYN Seomyeon, we use four FDA-approved pico platforms tailored to specific concerns: PicoCare for melasma, PicoWay for tattoo removal, PicoPlus for combination tones, Discovery Pico for premium full-face brightening.

How it works

The science ,
simplified.

Understanding the mechanism helps you set realistic expectations and choose the right brand for your goals.

01

Pigmentation mapping

Dr. Lee identifies your pigmentation types: freckles, sun spots, melasma, ABNOM, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Each responds differently to pico lasers.

02

Topical numbing

Numbing cream is applied for 15 minutes before treatment. Most fillers also contain lidocaine, so injection discomfort is minimal.

03

Picosecond laser delivery

PicoCare, PicoWay, PicoPlus, or Discovery Pico — Dr. Lee selects based on your skin type and pigmentation. Picosecond pulses shatter pigment with minimal heat damage to surrounding skin.

04

Instant result, 2-week settling

Results are visible immediately. Minor swelling and firmness resolves over 1–2 weeks, revealing the final natural-looking contour. Effect lasts 12–18 months.

Frequently asked

Pico Toning
questions.

How much does Pico Toning cost in Busan?
At JRYN Seomyeon: PicoCare ₩80,000, PicoWay ₩120,000, PicoPlus ₩100,000, Discovery Pico ₩150,000 per session. Packages of 5 sessions ₩400,000–600,000.
What's the difference between Pico and Q-switched lasers?
Q-switched: nanosecond pulses, more heat, more downtime, effective for established pigment. Pico: picosecond pulses (1000x faster), less heat, less downtime, better for stubborn or fine pigmentation.
How many sessions until I see results?
Brightening is visible after 1 session. Significant pigmentation reduction at 3–5 sessions. Stubborn melasma may require 8+ sessions plus topical maintenance.
Is Pico safe for Asian skin?
Yes — pico lasers were partly developed for Asian skin. Lower heat means less risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) compared to older Q-switched lasers.
Which pigmentation types respond best?
Freckles (excellent), sun spots (excellent), tattoos (excellent), ABNOM (good), melasma (gentle protocol needed), PIH (good). Dr. Lee will assess your specific concerns.
Is there any downtime?
Minimal. Mild redness for 2–4 hours. Some pigmented spots darken for 2–3 days before peeling off — normal and expected. You can return to work the same day.
How does Pico compare to IPL?
IPL: broad-spectrum, surface pigment, multiple skin issues at once. Pico: laser precision, deeper pigment, tattoos, more selective. For melasma, pico is preferred over IPL (which can worsen melasma).
Can Pico remove tattoos?
Yes — pico is the gold standard for tattoo removal. PicoCare and PicoWay are particularly effective. Most tattoos require 5–10 sessions for complete removal.
Will my pigmentation come back?
Existing pigment is destroyed permanently. New pigment can form from sun exposure, hormones (melasma), or skin trauma. Daily SPF50+ and yearly maintenance prevents recurrence.
Do you offer English-speaking consultations for Pico Toning?
Yes. Send photos in natural lighting via WhatsApp or LINE. Dr. Lee will diagnose your pigmentation types and recommend the appropriate pico laser with pricing.
